Prospecting
BY ERICK SÁENZ.
everywhere trash cans burst
coffee cups and plastic utensils,
we wink in salutation - the real
golden gate park
silhouettes glide past
then evaporate into
creamy sunrise, hardly
time for adjustments
subtle disruptions are enough
when all you know is traffic
and tourism, and the slow death
of capitalism
so i’ll enjoy the hummmmm
a distant sore
the sky revising
ebony blooms sapphire
Eventually
BY ERICK SÁENZ.
i wonder how many
more poems about
my father are
inside me
walk to the ocean,
stand in one place
water meets shore, let
your feet sink easy
wait 12 years for a
different kind of wind,
settle on forgiveness, let
the corridos pour out
almost 20 years later,
tear a poem, drop it near
those numb feet, notice
it writhe, wash away
