I'll Never Know

BY KEVIN B.

A photo of your casket
Adorned with
A black and white filter

Quotes about struggling
Quotes about ascension
A quote I don’t recognize
And one I do

You at your best
While those you left
Say they can’t find the words
While using words
To talk about
Being speechless

I think how well
Your hair falls
Across your face

Instinctively I touch
My own hair
While I feel the urge
To keep going down

But instead I linger
On you
The algorithm
Noting my delay

Now maybe I’ll
See more caskets
Hear more words
People couldn’t find
Guilt myself for asking
How, how, I wonder how
Taking frustration and reassurance
In knowing I’ll never know
