Featured Artist: Sara Gallagher

Sara Gallagher’s art practice works to break social taboos surrounding emotional and mental health through a hyperrealistic graphite and pastel technique she developed, writing, and community-based engagement. Working within a framework she describes as “Emotional Realism,” she transforms vulnerable conversations into visual form, exploring themes such as emotional intimacy, transition, and resilience. The concept of each piece derives from one of the community-based conversations she facilitates, and is paired with a written statement and a question directed to the viewer, encouraging further dialogue, personal reflection, and solidarity within our greater communities.

Community involvement is central to Gallagher’s work. She fosters safe spaces for shared storytelling through discussions, workshops, and mentorship. Gallagher holds a BFA with a dual emphasis in Painting & Drawing and Photography from San Francisco State University and studied hyperrealism with renowned artist Dirk Dzimirsky. Represented by CK Contemporary in San Francisco, her work has received international recognition from the Art Renewal Center, Fine Art Connoisseur, the European Museum of Modern Art, Sotheby’s New York, the Bennett Collection of Women Realists, the Lunar Codex Cultural Heritage Site on the Moon, and others.
